Burgers could be “as addictive as drugs”
Are you hooked on fast food? Well, you might be… A new theory reckons it’s addictive, just like cigarettes and drugs. Our bodies could be getting hooked on the high levels of sugar and fat in junk food. Scientists think chemicals called opioids released in the brain have something to do with it. This is how it works: you eat the burgers and your brain likes the chemical which is released so you want more and more burgers! It may explain why 38 billion burgers are munched each year in the U.S. But other scientists say there isn’t enough evidence to prove it yet…
